National Sportsmanship Day
Thursday, March 1st, 2007March 6th is the 17th annual National Sportsmanship Day, initially started in 1991 by the Institute for International Sport. The institute’s goal for launching NSD is to provoke thoughtful discussion and activities based on sportsmanship. I hope that this day of sportsmanship recognition can be used by all members and families of BAC to provide important reminders about what it means to participate in athletics in a respectful and positive manner.
There is currently much attention in the media being placed on incidents of poor sportsmanship and unethical behavior by both athletes and spectators. As a club, we can overshadow those incidents by all making a commitment to provide regular examples of quality sportsmanship and appreciating the positive value of athletics. I challenge each and every BAC family to make a conscious effort to incorporate these ideals further into the daily encounters we all have in sports and to reap the rewards that will undoubtedly stem from such commitments.
