Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be an experienced swimmer to join?

No, we welcome swimmers of all abilities. Our coaches work with each individual to provide appropriate workouts and technique guidance. Note: Masters Swimming is not a learn-to-swim program

What's the difference between Masters Swimming and lap swimming?

Masters Swimming offers structured, coach-led workouts tailored for adults. Lap swimming is independent and self-directed. Masters provides a variety of workouts and a team environment.

Do I need to attend every session?

No. You may attend as frequently as works for your schedule. Many members come 2-3 times per week, while others attend almost daily.

What equipment do I need to bring?

We recommend bringing a swimsuit, goggles, and a swim cap. Some workouts may use equipment such as kickboards, pull buoys, and fins. BAC provides kickboards and buoys, though many swimmers prefer to bring their own.

How do I join for USMS?

You can join on the U.S. Masters Swimming website (usms.org). Make sure to select Burlingame Aquatic Club ("BAC") when joining.

May I try a practice before committing?

Yes! We offer drop-in options that allow you to try the program before purchasing a monthly pass.
